Player standards

How to play in matches

Every Dragons player is welcome to play in matches. To keep games fun, fair and organised for everyone, we ask players to bring these six things to every fixture. The same standards apply across all age groups.

Come prepared

Players picked for matches are expected to keep up with their regular training sessions and work on the skills their coaches teach each week. Being ready to play, not being the best player on the pitch, is what earns a place in the squad.

Listen to your coaches

Team talks, position changes and simple game plans only work when players hear them and follow them. We expect players to listen the first time, on the pitch and on the sideline.

Play fair and play kind

Shake hands with opponents and officials, respect the referee's decisions even when they go against you, and never taunt or blame anyone. How you play matters more than the result.

Back your teammates

Cheer for teammates whether they score or miss. No sulking and no blaming. We win together and we learn together.

Be match-day ready

Arrive on time in your Dragons kit with boots, shin pads, water and a change of clothes. A player who's prepared gets a full game; a player who isn't may have to sit out.

Keep it positive

Bring energy, a smile and a willingness to learn. Mistakes are part of football. What matters is how quickly you get back to the next one.

Not sure whether your child is ready for their first match, or how squads are picked? Talk to the coaching team and we'll help them get match-day ready.
